If you just an average user it will be quite difficult for you to understand a few important criteria that you need to look at before buying a new laptop. Laptop is mainly designed for portability and hence the first thing that you need to consider before buying a new laptop is the size of the laptop. If you plan to use your laptop in various places, hence you need to consider a smaller size such as 12″, 13″ or 14″. However, if the laptop will be mainly used in your home or stationary use, then having a bigger laptop size should be no problem.
You also need to understand a few important technical terms such as processor, memory, hard disk, graphic card and front side bus. All these terms you will find in the specification of a laptop or PC. In the specification sheets of a laptop, the first thing you need to look at is the type and speed of the processor. If you want to go for a dual core processor, then anything below than 2 Gigahertz should be sufficient because that figure will be multiplied by two since it is a dual core processor.
Computer speeds is pretty much related to the processor speed and memory or RAM size. If you have big memory size, then your laptop will be capable of running many applications simultaneously. Memory or RAM is measured in gigabytes and laptops nowadays have at least 1 gigabytes of RAM. This would be enough if you just an average user. Another part of the hardware in a laptop is hard disk. Today, most of the laptops will be provided with hundred and sixty gigabytes of disk space. This will be more than enough to store lots of your works and personal data.
The last thing to consider before buying a new laptop is the front side bus. Maybe many of us do not realize the importance of this part. Front side bus is the speed data can be sent from CPU (central processing unit) to the memory or RAM. This speed is measured in megahertz and if you want high speed performance for your laptop, consider buying a laptop with a high front side bus.
